A classical education seeks to teach students how to learn and how to think.  It capitalizes on the inherent skills children possess at different phases of their lives.  Students begin by learning basic skills and memorizing facts in the earliest grades to create a solid foundation; education continues into the logic stage as students are taught to think using logical and well-formulated arguments; in the final stage- the rhetoric stage- students learn how to express and present their thoughts and opinions in a clear and organized way.
